Sweet 16 Birthday at The Fairmont in Winnipeg

Back in February I received a phone call from a young lady requesting professional photography service for her friend’s Sweet 16 birthday party. The young lady and her friends were planning to surprise their lucky friend with a photographer and a little photo shoot for her birthday gift. They were planning to stay at The Fairmont for the night and go out for a fancy dinner at Brooklynn’s Bistro Winnipeg (which happens to be where our Top Chef Canada hometown hero, Darryl Crumb, is Executive Chef). I thought that this girl was very well-spoken on the phone. She was obviously extremely intelligent to be running the show by calling a photographer at 15/16-years-old to discuss pricing and booking. During our first phone conversation it was determined that my session fee was a bit too much for their budget. Now I don’t normally negotiate on my pricing so our phone conversation ended and I wished her the best. After thinking about the fact that I miss the female interaction of my sisters, nieces, and best girlfriends back in San Diego…and about what a thoughtful smart cookie of a friend this girl was, I thought that I’d go ahead and see if I could make this happen for her. I called her back and offered her a small discount, but it was just enough to work within the budget being shared by her and her friends…so she booked for that coming weekend!

After spending a fair amount of time with these ladies I was happy to have had the opportunity to photograph their friendship and that we were able to work something out. Their parents must be proud, because each one of these ladies exudes class and intelligence while still being warm-hearted and friendly. The surprise thank you letter that I received from the girls demonstrates this. Everyone should raise their daughters to turn out like this…

A Chic Birthday-Boudoir Weekend in Winnipeg

Shantel came all the way from Brandon to have me photograph her boudoir session for her 30th birthday. Her sweet husband let her live it up and book a session for herself as a birthday present and they stayed for the weekend at the beautiful Fairmont Hotel. It was a romantic getaway from their parenting to enjoy each other and celebrate Shantel’s special birthday!

Ladies…maybe you can drop a hint to your hubbies for your next birthday or wedding anniversary!

Brad & Rilee – Man, do they love each other!

Brad & Rilee have been together for many years and have already started a beautiful family. They are a young couple that are very wise and very tender parents. I have been photographing weddings for over 10 years and I have to say that it was an honor being hired to photograph this wedding. The chemistry between these two is out-of-this world and the love that they have for their children gives me goosebumps! I absolutely adore the way Brad says, “Yes, my boy”…or “Come here, my boy” in such a special way that you just know he is so proud to be a father. Rilee is devoted to her 2 young boys and although she became a mother at a young age, she handles her role with grace. Their children are truly blessed to have such a loving (and good looking!) mother and father!

Birthday Girl Boudoir Session for Louise! – How many years young are you?

Her husband and her are currently living in India due to her husband’s business. Her thoughtful husband e-mailed her my website information from India and told her to book it as a birthday gift for herself. Cool, huh?

Californian Wedding Photographer in Winnipeg, MB – The article!

For those of you who haven’t noticed or who are reading this from my homeland of Calif-or-ni-yay, the tag line of my photography business in Canada is “California Grown Photography”. One of the most common questions I get asked here, besides “Is Honey your real name?”, is “So, what do you think of Winnipeg vs. San Diego?” Well come one, come all, and read my answers in the August 2010 issue of Weddings in Winnipeg!

My good grades in English class and my talkative personality have landed me a not-too-shabby article (accompanied by my photography of course) in Weddings in Winnipeg magazine. Bird’s Hill Park Engagement Session – Cara and Robin

So I’m willing to bet that many of you have had to reschedule something at some point over the past month or two due to the rain, right? Well, thank goodness for super cool people like Cara and Robin who didn’t let a very rainy afternoon stop them from enjoying an engagement session in Manitoba’s Bird’s Hill Provincial Park and a few shots at Pineridge Hollow as well. How lucky am I to always get such great, easy-going clients?

I met Cara and Robin at the Wonderful Wedding Show last January. After clicking with them right away, I was fortunate enough to have them book their wedding photography with me right there at the show! They will be getting married at Hecla Oasis Resort and Spa this September and I just know it will be a wedding full of LOVE and adoration…just look at the way Robin looks at his bride-to-be and the sweet, smitten smiles on Cara’s face…

The bugs were biting, the rain was falling, but the three of us made the best of a stormy Friday afternoon together!
